| Governor DeSantis Appointments Cory Dowd Cory Dowd is the new deputy legislative affairs director. Dowd previously served as policy adviser to Lieutenant Governor Jeanette Núñez. Taryn Fenske Joining Governor DeSantis’ staff as communication director was Taryn Fenske. Fenske previously served as the communications director for the Florida Department of Education. She replaces Fred Piccolo who left in December. Florida Division of Emergency Management Appointed director of the Florida Division of Emergency Management was Kevin Guthrie. Guthrie spent 23 years as a police officer and emergency preparedness coordinator with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. He was appointed deputy director of FDEM by Governor DeSantis in January, 2019. Alex Kelly Governor DeSantis’ new deputy chief of staff is Alex Kelly. Kelly previously served as chief of staff to Education Commissioner Richard Corcoran. Chief Science Officer Appointed Chief Science Officer was Dr. Mark Rains, Ph.D. Raines is a professor and chair and director of the School of Geosciences at the University of South Florida. |
