Senate President Ben Albritton (R-Bartow) and House Speaker Danny Perez (R-Miami) began their two-year terms as leaders of their respective chambers during the organizational session. They named their leadership teams, some of which include Senator Jason Brodeur (R-Lake Mary) as Senate President Pro Tempore, Senator Jim Boyd (R-Bradenton) as Senate Majority Leader, Representative Wyman Duggan (R-Jacksonville) as House Speaker Pro Tempore, and Representative Tyler Sirois (R-Merritt Island) as House Majority Leader.
Democratic leaders include Senator Jason Pizzo (D-Hollywood) as Senate Minority Leader, Senator Tracie Davis (D-Jacksonville) as Senate Minority Leader Pro Tempore, Representative Fentrice Driskell (D-Tampa) as House Minority Leader, Representative Dotie Joseph (D-North Miami) as Minority Leader Pro Tempore, Christine Hunschofsky (D-Coconut Creek) as House Minority Whip, and Representative Kelly Skidmore (D-Delray Beach) as House Minority Policy Chair.

Speaker Perez sent a series of memos to House members regarding the new committee structure, bill analysis, communications protocols and other changes to the legislative process.
The House met the week of December 2nd for Legislature University where members learned about the budget process, Florida’s Sunshine Law, ethics, and other topics of importance for new and returning members. The Senate gathered the week of December 9th for presentations about ethics, the long-range financial outlook, the bill filing process and other training.
