VOTER FRAUD CHARGES In 2022, the state sought the prosecution of two South Florida residents for illegally voting in elections. The charges were dropped when judges determined that the attorney general’s statewide prosecutors did not have the authority to bring charges. The Legislature subsequently changed the law in 2023 to give the prosecutors the authority. The state then sought the reversal of the dropped charges and the appeal court concurred that the law could be enforced retroactively. The charges were reinstated.

HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT SUCCESS Marvin Exantus, a student in the Fort Lauderdale High School pre-law magnet program, recently won the Ninth Annual Gladiator International Mock Trial Competition in Atlanta. Teammates, coaches, and family helped Exantus prepare for the contest, but could not assist him once he entered the courtroom. Exantus’ championship makes him the second student from Florida to win the international competition.
