200 YEARS IN TALLAHASSEE On November 8th, a presentation was made at the Florida Historic Capitol Museum commemorating the 200th anniversary of Florida’s first legislative meeting in Tallahassee. The original meeting was convened by Territorial Governor William Duval where lawmakers established Leon County and incorporated key cities like Pensacola and St. Augustine.

LAND ACQUISITION As part of the Rural and Family Lands Protection Program, Florida purchased a 754-acre cattle ranch in Hendry County for just over $4 million and a 1,070-acre cattle operation in Highlands County for $4.3 million. Earlier this year, the Legislature passed SB 1638 which annually designates $100 million in funding from the Seminole Tribe of Florida gaming compact for such land preservation projects.
