Yesterday, Governor Rick Scott signed off on the two congressional maps that the Republican-controlled Florida legislature approved on Monday. The changes were made to correct Districts 5 and 10, currently held by Representatives Corrine Brown, a Democrat, and Daniel Webster, a Republican. Judge Terry Lewis ruled the districts were drawn illegally and gave the legislature until August 15 to redraw the district. Judge Lewis will review the new maps, which influence the boundaries of seven districts, on August 20th. It is probable that the groups who opposed the initial maps, resulting in Judge Lewis’ verdict, will oppose the new maps as well.
