The Florida Capitol Complex is getting a major overhaul with the installation of tinted, energy-efficient, bulletproof windows in the Senate and House office buildings and the 22-story Capitol building. The Legislature approved $61 million in 2019 for the removal of the louvered shutters and the purchase of 1,656 windows. The windows will be replaced in phases with the entire project expected to be completed by 2027. Waller Park, the area behind the Capitol building, has been under construction for over two years. Weatherproofing of the Senate and House garages was completed last year.
The Senate renovated its entire office building this past summer. The building has a fresh look with new windows, carpet, furniture, lighting, paint, temperature controls and technology. This is the most complete renovation since the building’s meeting rooms were updated in the past decade.
