Below is a sampling of bills that passed:
PERSONAL HYGIENE PRODUCTS Correctional facilities must make feminine hygiene products, toothbrushes, toothpaste and other such products available, at no cost, to incarcerated women. The bill also prohibits a male correctional officer in a Department of Corrections or Department of Juvenile Justice facility from conducting a pat-down, strip-search, or body cavity search of a female prisoner.
ANTI-SEMITISM Both chambers unanimously passed legislation adding religion to the list of categories for which discrimination is prohibited. It also requires Florida public schools and colleges to treat incidents of anti-Semitism by students, teachers and other employees the same as racism.
HAZING The bill strengthens anti-hazing rules on Florida college campuses. It also holds harmless individuals who provide aid to the victim before assistance arrives or if they call 911 for a hazing victim.
BLOCKCHAIN The Legislature created the Florida Blockchain Task Force to study blockchain’s potential use in state government. Blockchain technology facilitates cryptocurrency transactions.
SALES TAX HOLIDAYS The tax break package includes the annual back to school tax holiday (August 2nd-6th); a tax break on hurricane supplies including batteries, flashlights, shutters and generators (May 31st-June 6th); and a reduction in the commercial rent sales tax rate.
